Memory Quilts

Customised memory quilts using materials from your own life. Expertly crafted and available in every size from baby to king. These custom quilts will stay with you for decades with proper care. Explore the reasons to commission a memory quilt for yourself, and the various options available for customisation.

Memorial Quilts
Rather than letting the textiles attached to your most precious memories languish in the back of a closet or storage unit, assemble them into a custom quilt that can become part of your daily life. The collection of onesies and baby blankets that defined your child's infancy. The clothing that belonged to a precious loved one who has now passed. The uniforms and jerseys from a beloved sport your child played. These are all great examples of memory quilts that preserve and consolidate textiles related to your memories.

Compilation Quilts
A memory quilt doesn't have to be related to a loved one; it can also be a great way to consolidate a collection into something you use every day. Perhaps you have a collection of band shirts or graphic tees that you rarely wear but don't want to part with. There are lots of reasons you might want to create a quilt like this. The quilt below is a great example. It was commissioned by YQR Scottish to display their collection of authentic Scottish tartan.

What's the Process?
Simply mail your materials to me and I will create the memory quilt of your dreams. I will cut and arrange your items, filling any empty space with premium, 100% cotton in a complimenting colour. The standard turnaround time is 4-8 weeks. If you live in Regina you can pick up your finished quilt from my home studio for free, worldwide shipping is available for all other orders.

Design
Depending on the fabrics provided, there are two ways to assemble your memory quilt. A simple design with a standard block pattern, or a complex design that will preserve graphics and other details. If there is enough fabric provided, you can also add memory pillows to your order.

Fabric
Besides the fabrics you provide, you get to choose the other fabrics that make up your quilt. There are fabric options to fit every budget. My standard offerings are sturdy broadcloth and premium 100% cotton. Broadcloth is a blend of cotton and polyester, making it a durable and affordable option for your quilt. Cotton is a quality natural fibre that is known for being soft and breathable. If you have another fabric in mind, please contact me to discuss.

Pantograph
A pantograph is the design used to finish stitching your quilt together. I have a wide variety of pantograph styles, ranging from a simple meander to complex stylistic illustrations. The examples below are far from the only styles that you are limited to, but they're good examples of how simple or complex your pantograph can be.

Optional Add-ons
Go the extra mile with these special extra touches. Add your name, logo, or a custom fancy border to tie your memory quilt together.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many items should I send?

Check the table above for the suggested number of items. If you have fewer items that are recommended for a size, I will fill the spaces with premium 100% cotton in a complementary colour.

If you have more items than are recommended for a size, you may sort your items into 2 parcels labelled “must be included” and “can be excluded if necessary.” Any unused items will be returned to you.

Please note these guidelines are for full-sized items. If you want a quilt made with baby clothes (note that baby clothes quilts are only suitable for baby and throw sizes), then double the amounts or expect extra cotton filler.

Where do I send my fabrics too?

To my home studio at 382 Froom Crescent, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada S4N 1T6. Local orders can email me to arrange a time to drop off their fabrics, worldwide orders can mail their fabrics to me.

Should I cut my fabrics before sending them?

Please do not pre-cut your fabrics. I will cut all your fabrics to ensure they will be able to fit into the design.

What fabrics can I send?

Any machine-washable fabric may be sent. Dry clean-only fabrics will not work. Fabrics that are particularly thick may not be able to be used, but you may send them along for my consideration.

What items can you use?

T-shirts of all varieties (concert shirts, logo shirts, sports shirts, etc), blouses, flannels, fleece, sweat pants, dress or work shirts, work uniforms, lightweight sweaters, denim, jerseys, baby blankets, sheets, children’s clothes, and anything made of cotton or polyester and their blends.

Why is a memory quilt so expensive when I’m supplying you the fabric?

Besides the cost of traditional 3-layer quilting, the majority of the cost for a memory quilt comes from labour and technical skill. It takes time to cut and arrange the source fabrics. Depending on the fabrics provided, your quilt may require a custom pattern.

How long does it take to finish my quilt?

It takes an average of 4-8 weeks to finish a memory quilt, then add on the appropriate time to ship before it’s in your possession. Please note that my busy seasons, namely Graduation and Christmas, will have longer wait times based on how many orders are ahead of you. If you’re looking to order a quilt during these times, please plan accordingly.

Do you offer worldwide shipping?

Yes, I do!

Do you offer local pick-up?

If you live in Regina or the surrounding area, you are welcome to pick up your quilt from my home studio at 382 Froom Crescent. Simply choose the pickup option during checkout, then email me with your order number to arrange a time.
